‘Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.’
What is Iyengar Yoga
Learning more about yoga and finding a yoga class that works for you can be confusing. There are so many different types, and yes they really can be very different. You may have been to a class where most of the time is spent lying down, focusing on breathing and relaxation with perhaps some chanting at the start or the end. Or you may have experienced a class where it’s fast, moving from one pose to another, more of a cardio workout. So what then will you experience when you come to an Iyengar Yoga class?
In Iyengar Yoga, we focus on alignment, precision and developing awareness. We hold the poses to target specific parts of the body and build strength and flexibility. We use props such as belts, blocks, blankets, even a wall to help us learn and deepen each pose, to move from outwards in. Each class is different ensuring the body benefits from both repetition and variety to learn and progress. Classes are small to ensure you get the attention you might need. A class is typically one and a half hours to ensure we give ourselves enough time to explore the potential of each posture or asana in depth. How we sequence the postures is important to provide a safe and progressive practice for all abilities. And yes, you’ll feel like you’ve worked! 🙂Find out more
